We returned to Bogota the following December for an extended stay, to see if it would be a good place to live. The hospitality of the families we met was impressive, and we made a preliminary rental agreement for a house. It all seemed right, including a personal invitation to the jungle province of Vichada in Eastern Colombia! I was excited about the opportunity to fly to the remote communities from Bogota via the old DC-3 airplanes, and begin this jungle adventure. It was not to be; at least not here.

Just two weeks later I was invited to go on another jungle trip with some friends out of Bogota. Now we’re talking – my first real trip to the jungle in over 40 years! Until this plan for my future was revealed, I had no desire to visit the jungle again. I spent part of 1969 – 70 in the jungle near Da Nang, Vietnam. It was an adventure, but not a vacation; not one I wanted to repeat. Just good preparation for what was to come.

The Meta River area east of Villavicencio sounded promising, until I spent some time there. No, this was not it either. It was time to return to the good ol’ U.S. of A. Patience is a virtue and I will know the right place when I finally get there.
